Y- WORSHIP (A deconstruction of Evening Prayer by the Youth of Y-Worship)

It takes the young to relate to the young, and this certainly happened on the 13 June at St Christopher’s Church, Bulwark, by the youth of Y-Worship. The whole evening service was taken over by young people aged between 11 and 18 using rap and live music, drama and dance to relate the Gospel. No need for a sermon, as those taking part acted out, with music and words, the trials and tribulations they face in every day living. It made me thankful that when I was at school in the 1950’s - early 60s, there was no mention of drugs or violence, and I naively thought that everyone I knew believed in God, as the first years of my education were in a school belonging to a Church.

A big thank you to all who took part in bringing to our attention the difficulties and temptations faced by the youth today. And congratulations that you have managed to break with the traditional evening service and make it more meaningful and up to date. I hope we will see a lot more of the Y- Worship team, and may be the young people in our community will be attracted to join in this exciting music/drama/dance project based in Chepstow. I know that Mike Scott is still looking to recruit young people between the ages of 11 and 18, so if you feel you would like to find out more about this great team you can contact Mike by e.mail: scottymike@tiscali.co.uk
