Dosbarth Cymraeg - Dosbarth Derwen
"Y tro Cyntaf erioed?" "The first time ever?"

I always knew it would come in handy. I've been trying to learn Welsh for years and my friend in Newport is quite proud of me. Well just before I went away on holiday I had a phone call from a charming teacher at the new Welsh Starter Unit at Oakfield Primary School. This delightful lady started the conversation in English and then we switched to Welsh. She wanted to bring her Y1 class to visit the Parish Church. Of course I was delighted and we fixed it up for the afternoon of November 10th. Wel cyraeddodd "Miss" gyda help oedolyn a'r plant. ("Miss" arrived with adult help and the children) They were lovely ag aethon ni ar drip o gwmpas yr Eglwys (we went on a trip around the Church). We saw the Font (Bedyddfaen); The Bible (Y Beibl); Yr Allor (Altar); Lluniau Ffenestri (Window Pictures), yn enwedig Y Samariad Trugarog (The Good Samaritan); Mair (Mary); Gwisg Ficer (The Vicar's Vestments) Yr Organ (do you really want the last one translated?). However they were really amused when I blew wind down one of the false organ pipes to show how it sounded!! The children were wonderfully well behaved and it was lovely to be able to share the Gospel and our heritage through the medium of the Welsh language. I believe it was the first time a Welsh Language class has visited St Mellons Church. Diolch Dosbarth Derwyn.
PS I was able to pop in to school today to see some of the work they had done as a result of their visit.
